Dr. Hongyan Li is a California Board Certified Acupuncturist with over 29 years of clinical experiences in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. Using her extensive knowledge in Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine, Dr. Li has helped to deliver high quality treatment to vast numbers of patients in China and US, and she is one of most recognized professionals in the field of Chinese Medicine and acupuncture in Santa Clarita & Encino.
Medical Education
Dr. Li earned her MD degree from one of most prestigious medical universities in China, Tongji Medical University. After five years of intensive education and training in both Chinese and Western Medicine, she then completed her residency at XiangFan Second Hospital.
Afterward, she completed three additional years of training in Ophthalmology at Beijing Medical University and became an Ophthalmic Surgeon. Dr. Li was trained under Professor Dr. Xiuan Zhu, who had more than 50 years of medical clinical experience and is one of most famous Chinese medical doctors and masters in China.
Professional Experience
Dr. Li has been dedicated to her medical career for over 29 years including treating patients, teaching students and conducting medical research. Integrating Western and Oriental Medical techniques, she has successfully treated hundreds of patients who had chronic or acute pain, infertility and eye diseases. Thus, she was appointed as the Chief Physician in Department of Medicine at XiangFan Medical Center Hospital.
After graduating as a Chinese Medical Ophthalmologist in 1994, Dr. Li was invited to join the staff team at Beijing University, Hangtian Teaching Hospital as the hospital chief doctor. In 1996, she earned her tenure as an associate professor at the Beijing University, Hangtian Teaching Hospital. She was invited to give presentations and lectures in many highly-ranked Oriental Medical Research Institutes and Hospitals throughout China.
Dr. Li was a key researcher to many renowned research projects, contributing to more than ten international research projects, sponsored by National Nature Science Foundation in China and NIH in US.
In 1997, Dr. Li was invited as a visiting scholar to USC School of Medicine. In 1999, she was invited by UCLA School of Medicine to work on multiple research projects, and worked as a research scholar in Department of Cardiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for six years.
Since 1999, Dr. Li had extended her post-graduate training in Oriental Medicine at Samra Oriental University in United States. She also received western medical training in Cytology at UCLA. Her integration of Oriental and Western medical approach to treat patient makes her an extraordinary health practitioner in the field of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. In 2006, Dr. Li has served as an consultant for several clinics and hospital for eye care, infertility, pain management and health fitness training. She currently practices acupuncture in Santa Clarita and Encino.

Dr. Li has published many significant scientific papers on highly recognized Chinese medical journals. As an expert, she was invited to write an article on “Research Progress on the Mechanism of Phagocytosis by Retinal Pigment Epithelium,” in Foreign Medicine Journal in 1994.
She has presented her medical research at world’s largest international research conference held in US for many times.
She has more than twenty publications in prestigious medical journals in US, which have been cited by other authors and scientists. These articles can be found on MEDICINE DATABASE, largest medical reference database in the world.
Awards
In 1996, Dr. Li was awarded “Third Class Honor for the Advancement of Science & Technology” by National Education Committee, funded by National Natural Science Foundation in China. This is the highest academic honor in China.
Because of her extraordinary contribution to patient care, teaching and medical research, Dr. Li was recognized as an Outstanding Doctor in “World Famous Doctor Daquan (China Roll)” in 1996.
Dr. Li has served as a special editor and expert for “Journal of Chinese People’s Health” since 2012.
